Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair acquire new vineyard

Louis-Michel Liger-Belair have acquried the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru monopole Clos des Grandes Vignes from Chateau de Puligny Montrachet.

The vineyard was until 2004 a part of Domaine Thomas-Moillard, but was sold along with other fine vineyards to Domaine Dujac and Etienne de Montille. Etienne de Montille then sold this vineyard to Chateau de Puligny Montrachet, which he also directs and now own. Chateau de Puligny Montrachet produced the wine since vintage 2005.

Clos des Grandes Vignes is 2.2ha and located in the very southern part of Nuits-Saint Georges just across the road from Clos des Corvees in the village Premeaux-Prissey. It’s the only 1er cru located southeast of RN74. The new vineyard includes a plot of 0,35ha Chardonney.

In recent years the number of good wines from the Premeaux-Prissey area have increased significantly. The most prominent producer is Domaine Prieure Roch with Clos des Corvees and recently also Les Argillieres. J.-F. Mugnier produces a lovely Clos de la Marechale, showing the fine potential of the terroir in the area.

In my view Clos de Corvees and Les Argillieres are among the very best vineyards in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appelation, and we are in for a treat if the Clos de Grand Vignes terroir have the same qualities.
