The Harvest 2026 is very near the start …
There is a lot of doubt and frustration about fixing the harvest dates, as the vignerons are to get a hold of what to do with these small, thick-skinned grapes with a low juice content.
Some have more or less thrown in the towel … and harvest just to say they did it, with no positive expectations left seeing the grapes.
I can understand the despair as the grapes in places are small, hard and bitter … but miracles do happen in Burgundy … and a miracle is what we need in quite many appellations.
Some appellations’ hopes are higher with the rain last weeks … let’s hope!
– But no juice, with bitterness I had never tasted like that
Arômes really powerful , beautiful, it is what impressed me the most.
How are the phenolics really, and is there rain on the menu later, and will the rain help anything given these small and hard grapes?

I think the answer is individual … depending on appellation, vineyard, viticulture, sepage and luck. Some think they can wait … others want to get started relatively early.
Among the early starters will presumably be the usual suspects, Bizot, who apparently want to start between August 18th and August 20th. And my guess is that the harvest of the reds in the Beaune/Corton region will start before the 18th of August.
Even a bigger question is the whites in Côte de Beaune … could start from August 12 or 13th according to latest info. Others say they might wait to the beginning of September, if acidity and alcohol behave.
Are you in doubt? All are!
To speak about quality is premature, as it will no doubt be very variable depending on harvest time and the trickery in the cellar.
Yields look to be very small … as the grapes are small with very little juice …
Good luck … in many senses good luck
