The weather forecast has changed… not much rain this weekend … but during the next weekend … perhaps… and the week after … likewise perhaps!
Next days
The rain expected this weekend has partly evaporated like the rosé in the Winehog’s glass – let’s see if there are a few drops in one of the thunderstorms. We all hope and pray.
First rain is expected on Thursday the 20th… and the next days seem to hold some showers also … but let’s look at this when we get into next week. The weather forecast changes as the wind blows.
The temperatures should drop, but it will be Wednesday the 19th before the temperature drops below 30 Celcious. So hot still!
… this does not look promising!
Some are praying for rain – waiting and hoping it would improve phenolic ripeness and get a better balance. There is sadly a risk that they are caught by the increasing sugar/alcohol levels, as the temperature continues to be quite high … almost 30 Celcious during the week to come.
Some will in the end be forced to harvest the fast-ripening grapes as the sugar goes through the sky… For growers still without a ready and operational team … catch-22…
The important harvests
Domaine d´Eugénie harvested Corton-Charlemagne Thursday, a new wine for Jae and her team. The Charlies thrive in hot weather … but maybe not this hot.
Now they continue with the Corton and presumably the other vineyards in the d’Eugénie portfolio – full power – could be a wise decision by Jae and her team.
Clos des Tart is also harvesting and is one of the first big holdings being picked in Côte de Nuits. Also an Artemis Domaine.
In Côte de Beaune, we have Arnaud Ente starting out while Domaine Chartron is continuing picking vineyards in their huge collection.
Bastien at Coffinet-Duvernay will be in Cailleret on Saturday … and perhaps also the Batard-Montrachet.
Domaine Pierre Vincent is pushing through with their team … and seems to have managed most of the important vineyards already.
Finally, Domaine Leflaive completed their third day on Friday and will have two or three days left before 2026 is done … a very impressive team Brice has organized!
This morning, very early, Domaine Leflaive took on the Bienvenue Batard-Montrachet with artificial light glowing over the vineyard – see below. They are continuing in Pucelles before the heatwave increases the temperatures to unbearable levels.
Bravo, Brice and Domaine Leflaive; in a crazy weather situation like the current canicule, strong measures like this are needed.
