One of the more complex – and changeable – plots on the Corton hill is the Corton Pougets of Domaine de Montille.
Etienne de Montille acquired the parcel in 2004, and at the time it was planted with pinot noir and sold under the Corton Pougets label.
Etienne decided almost immediately to regraft the upper part of the vineyard with chardonnay, and subsequently to plough up and completely replant the lower part – also with chardonnay.
So, an exciting plot, from which I enjoyed the red tremendously. But the white is potentially equally exciting.
The Domaine de Montille plots of Corton Pougets
Domaine de Montille currently makes two Cortons – Corton Clos du Roi and Corton-Charlemagne from the Pougets terroir – and on rare occasions (like 2011) also a white Corton!
The Corton Pougets vineyard totals 9.82 ha, and Domaine de Montille owns 1.02 ha in the eastern end of the plot bordering Les Perrieres.
